Carla Parente is the winner of
the 2007 Coimbra Fashion Week award for young designers. She is also an Image
Consultant that works on television projects in Maputo. She sent down the
catwalk a collection of pieces in crepe satin, silk, chiffon and cotton at
Mozambique Fashion Week 2011.
Her safari inspired collection has varied
elements to the silhouette, some borrowed from past decades. This was embraced by the earthy tones that were
consistent throughout. The mullet skirts
have a nod to the trend of the season ahead; layering with an underskirt in cotton
fabric gives the dresses a chic look with a 1960s retro spin. The ladylike two
piece set, with white cigarette pants and a leopard print fitted short sleeved jacket,
topped with a slim belt gives a 1940s flair to the overall look. I
also like Parente’s take on the classic safari short jumpsuit. Instead of using the
predictable beige tones she has opted for a coral colour that is harmonised
with accessories in the safari staple beige.
My 8 favourites.
I foresee a bright future for this talented designer.
