Maita Marimo is a young Zimbabwean born fashion designer who
launched her Harare based brand in 2009.She completed her fashion design at the
School of Art Institute of Chicago before returning home to establish her
brand.Maita’s designs have a vintage influence, combined with rich
textiles, topped with beading and yet classic. What I also like about Maita
Marimo is how she has originality; she embraces her surroundings and creates a
story in her photo shoots. For Maita Marimo fashion is a form of expression. It allows
her to create a reflection of how she views the world. She believes every garment
she makes is a collectible piece of art. Her inspiration comes from the
environment and simplifying different forms and objects. She is also heavily influenced
by modern art, photography and sculpture. She believes that all human beings
are a celebration of individualism. Her collection showcased at Africa Fashion
Week 2011 showed a classic and 1950s influence. Here is a few of my favourites.
I am so in love with the yellow and gold dress. That’s a definite must have.
