Grace Jones was the antithesis of femininity with her Amazonian figure and short hair. The daughter of a Pentecostal minister, she rebelled against her strict upbringing in pursuit of a modelling career in Paris at a time when her theatrical attitude perfectly suited the extremes of 1970's fashion 'Glitter? huh. Platform shoes? Yeah...it was sort of old Hollywood star stuff.' Fashion centred on the flashy nightclub scene at Paris's club Sept, where Grace Jones partied every night.Together with her friend Jerry Hall. Jones brought outrageous performance to modelling and as a result created a second career for herself. In the 1980s she turned to music , cultivating an aggressive look of sharp, angular, leather clothes and a razored quiff to clothe her image as a modern diva. Now in her 60s', no doubt Jones has had an influence on black vogue. We see how her look has been emulated for Vogue editorials for the likes of Chanel Iman and Rose Cordero. She has not only influenced fashion but art as a whole. A good friend of Andy Warhol a leading figure in the pop art movement. Andy Warhol also created a pop art poster of Grace Jones. Kesh a British artist was also influenced in some way by Grace Jones, this is evident in her art work.
I have created a mood board with pictures of Grace Jones, Chanel Iman, Rose Cordero and work by Artist Andy Warhol and Kesh
