Its very difficult to pin point when exactly leopard print became prominent in fashion. Whats clear is that throughout history Kings and Queens of Africa have used animal print ensembles as a sign of status.
1940's - Saw the emergence of animal print influenced by the women's movement.
1950's - Christian Dior popularised leopard print in his designs and ad campaigns which featured the famous print.
1960's - The hippie Movement late in the 60's also exerted a strong influence on animal print.
1970's - The major cultural phenomenon that is "Punk Rock" brought about leopard print accents. The punk rock movement was further set in motion by designers like Vivienne Westwood.
Today - Music meets fashion as Nicki Minaj finds herself in the centre of an emerging fashion movement embraced by other stars including Lady Gaga. Leopard print has become something reminiscent of the 70's.
